Most recent published data — May
2026 (released June 11, 2026):
- Final demand PPI rose 1.1 percent in May, seasonally
adjusted, following gains of 1.1 percent in April and 0.7 percent in
March.
- On an unadjusted 12-month basis, final demand prices
rose 6.5 percent through May — the largest 12-month increase since a 7.4
percent rise in November 2022.
- Roughly 80 percent of the May increase came from a 2.8
percent jump in final demand goods prices, while services prices rose 0.3
percent.
- Upstream pressure was even sharper: stage 1 intermediate
demand prices rose 3.2 percent in May — the largest increase since the
series began in December 2009 — and were up 12.3 percent year-over-year.
Stage 2 intermediate demand prices rose 12.5 percent over the 12 months,
the largest advance since a 16.1 percent rise in September 2022.
- Key drivers included rising prices for industrial
chemicals, diesel fuel, gasoline, aluminum base scrap, jet fuel, and
securities brokerage/investment advisory services, partly offset by
declines in fuels/lubricants retailing and natural gas.
What's next: The June 2026 PPI report is scheduled for release today,
July 15, 2026, at 8:30 a.m. ET (6:00 p.m. IST). Markets are watching
closely — May's wholesale inflation was already running hot at 6.5% YoY, and
this print comes right after yesterday's June CPI, which surprised to the
downside (headline CPI fell 0.4% for the month, largely on a sharp drop in
gasoline prices after the earlier Iran-related energy spike faded). If June PPI
cools similarly, it would reinforce the Fed's wait-and-see stance; a hot
reading would revive concern about sticky pipeline inflation.
