Key releases today

·         Producer Price Index (PPI) – June (8:30 AM ET)

·         Headline PPI MoM: expected to decline 0.1%, following a 1.1% increase the previous month

·         Core PPI (ex food & energy) MoM: expected to rise 0.4%, unchanged from the previous reading

·         Headline PPI YoY: forecast to ease to 6.2% from 6.5%

·         Core PPI YoY: expected to increase to 5.2% from 4.9%, suggesting sticky underlying inflation

·         Empire State Manufacturing Index (July) (8:30 AM ET) — expected to improve to 8.6, up from 5.7

·         MBA Mortgage Applications (weekly, 7:00 AM ET) — prior week showed a 2.2% decline

·         Fed Chair Kevin Warsh testifies before the Senate Banking Committee at 10 a.m. ET (his first appearance there this week, following House testimony on July 14)

·         Fed Beige Book release (2:00 PM ET) — qualitative read on economic conditions across Fed districts ahead of upcoming policy discussions

Context: This follows Tuesday's CPI print, where economists had expected headline inflation to retreat to 3.8% YoY from 4.2% in May, partly due to falling gasoline prices after the US-Iran peace deal signed in mid-June.

Also this week: Retail sales and the preliminary Michigan Consumer Sentiment survey are due later (Thursday/Friday).
