US Consumer Price Index CPI Data Release

US Consumer Price Index CPI Data Release 14 July 2026

The June 2026 CPI report is set to be published today, July 14, at 8:30 a.m. ET, and the actual data isn't in yet — my latest search still shows only previews and forecasts, not the released figures. Here's where things stand:

Latest confirmed data (May 2026, released June 10):

  • Headline CPI: the Consumer Price Index for All Urban Consumers rose 0.5 percent, seasonally adjusted, and rose 4.2 percent over the last 12 months, not seasonally adjusted
  • Core CPI (ex food/energy): the index for all items less food and energy increased 0.2 percent in May (SA); up 2.9 percent over the year (NSA)
  • Energy was the big driver, with the energy index accounting for over sixty percent of the monthly all items increase, largely from gasoline.

What to expect from today's June release: Consensus forecasts point to a softer headline but sticky core. Consensus: headline CPI -0.1% month-on-month; annual rate falls from 4.2% to ~3.9%, driven by a 10% June gasoline price decline. On the core side, core CPI is expected to hold at approximately 2.9% year-on-year in June, with a monthly increase of around 0.2%.

One nuance analysts are flagging: a negative monthly headline number and a falling annual rate do not mean inflation is under control — they reflect a one-month reversal in energy prices tied to a ceasefire that has since collapsed, with fresh airstrikes and Iran's disputed Strait of Hormuz closure claim pushing oil back up since.
