Economic Calendar Stock Market 6 July 2026

Here's what's on tap for markets this week (July 6–11, 2026):

Market snapshot (last close)

  • S&P 500: 7,483.24, roughly flat on the day

  • Dow: 52,900.07, up about 1.1%

  • Nasdaq: 25,832.67, down about 0.8%

  • VIX: 15.81, down about 2%

  • Gold: around $4,187, up nearly 1.5%

  • Bitcoin: around $62,700, down about 0.8%

Key economic events this week

It's actually a fairly light data week. Wall Street returns from the holiday weekend to a light economic calendar, with the main event being:

  • Wednesday, July 8 — FOMC meeting minutes from the June Fed meeting will be released, giving markets a closer look at the Fed's internal debate. This is notable because it's the first set of minutes since Kevin Warsh took over as Fed Chair, and Warsh has been skeptical of central bankers' forecasts, notably skipping the quarterly dot plot.

Broader July backdrop

  • The Fed is currently holding its target rate at 3.50%–3.75%, after Warsh reshaped Fed communications by dropping traditional forward guidance in favor of pure data dependence.

  • Headline CPI rose 4.2% year-over-year through May 2026 — the largest 12-month increase since April 2023, so inflation is still the dominant market theme.

  • Oil has eased into the low-$70s range as Strait of Hormuz shipping disruptions have calmed down, which has taken some pressure off inflation expectations.

  • Internationally: the Bank of Japan meets July 30–31, and Australia's next CPI print lands July 29 ahead of the RBA's August meeting — both worth watching for global risk sentiment.
